Here, the coastline holds hidden clues.

Due to the influence of modernization, cities, rural areas, and inland regions have all experienced significant development. However, this development is not uniform, and even the same coastline can vary subtly depending on location and region. I had questions about how ordinary homes in Japan came to be, and what characteristics arise in Minato-machi(港町). How has architectural style changed over time, and what distinguishes modern homes from those of the early Showa period? With these questions in mind, I took these photos.

Through observing architectural photos, we can see the changes in time and place. With rapid modernization, lifestyles and architectural styles have also changed. In the modern landscape of Japan, buildings from each era are mixed together, and I wanted to try exploring the connections between them. By photographing buildings in various harbor towns throughout Japan, we can pay attention to the changes in culture, history, daily life, and rarely seen natural landscapes behind them.
