Shines upon the green moss
復照青苔上
2020~
In 2020, the global pause and rupture prompted us to reconsider the ways of seeing and being. It was in this moment that 「Shines upon the green moss」 to take shape, becoming my renewed observation and reinterpretation of the land of Japan.
The earlier series, 「Meiji Monument」 emerged like a “point” peering through the gaps of history, exploring the cultural roots since the Meiji era from an extremely focused perspective. 「FACADE」 followed the trajectory of a “line,” revealing the complex layers of contemporary Japan through architecture and urban textures. Today, 「Shines upon the green moss」 no longer clings to specific times or places; it transforms into a “plane,” a web woven with perception, integrating fragments of nature, human presence, and everyday life.
This time, I no longer photograph with predetermined intentions. Images coalesce spontaneously in the flow of unconscious perception. The moments captured by chance attract and collide with one another, forming a self-generated order. I am not merely the observer but also part of what is being observed. Through the collage and overlapping of images, I attempt to reveal the hidden breath and spirit beneath the surface.
「Shines upon the green moss」 is not a depiction of Japan but an experiment in breathing together with it. When light once again falls upon the moss, those memories and sensations covered by time awaken silently.
